Match Week 10
It’s another weekend of EPL matches sure to get those wagering juices flowing. This might not be the sexiest slate of games on paper but that won’t stop our EPL insider James Kempton from offering his thoughts on everything Premier League to make you money.
Sunderland v Arsenal
Arsenal -1.25 and 3 goals
Arsenal are unbeaten in the last nine total meetings of the sides with the Mackems only managing to net four goals in those nine games. Arsenal have won by more than a full goal in five of those but last season were held to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light. After last weekends’ home draw with Middlesbrough it is a brave man who backs Arsenal giving up more than a full goal especially ahead of an away game in the Champions League. Do we trust Sunderland? No.
Manchester United v Burnley
Man Utd -2 and 2.75 goals
The sides have met twice in EPL action in the 2009-10 and 2014-15 season. On each occasion United ran out comfortable winners as they registered a 3-1 win in February 2015 and 3-0 in January 2010. We all know how Jose uses deflectionary tactics and here Burnley look perfect fodder for such a response after that pathetic United display at Stamford Bridge. Burnley have already lost by two goals at Southampton and by three goals at Chelsea and Leicester already this season on the road. I can’t believe I am saying this but even laying two goals I really like the home team.
Middlesbrough v Bournemouth
PK and 2.25 goals
Middlesbrough have scored just four goals in their last seven EPL games and have not scored more than once at home all season. Very quietly Eddie Howe’s men have gone 3-3-1 in their last seven outings with that solitary loss being away at Man City which I am sure we can forgive. I cannot have Bournemouth though off of a PK line away from home to anybody and logically if I like the home team then it is has to be the under too!
Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City
Spurs -1 and 2.5 goals
The sides met four times last season and it was the Foxes 1-0 win on a cold Wednesday night in January in this fixture that went a long way towards helping them secure their title victory. Over the past two seasons the sides have met seven times in all competitions and Yes on Both Teams To Score has gone 5-2. After that comfortable win last Saturday are Leicester back to resembling some semblance of the side that ran away with the title last season? The value is with Leicester despite their upcoming midweek trip to Copenhagen.
Watford v Hull City
Watford -0.75 and 2.5 goals
Watford have kept two clean sheets in a row whilst Hull have lost by two or more goals in each of their last five EPL encounters. Giving up more than half a goal for Watford in any spot is not a particularly attractive proposition but this Hull team is in freefall. Home team or pass.
West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City
Man City -1.25 and 2.75 goals
City have enjoyed their visits to the Hawthornes over recent seasons as they have won their last four trips with the last two victories coming by two goals. The last six EPL meetings of the sides have gone over 2.5 goals with three of those seeing four or more goals. Everything is pointing to goals and the away team but hold on a minute! Man City host Barcelona midweek and given the importance of that game how could you ever consider backing City minus a full goal with such a big game on deck. West Brom are a tough nut to crack so receiving over a full goal this is a no brainer bet for me; take the goals and back the Baggies.
Crystal Palace v Liverpool
Liverpool -0.75 and 2.75 goals
These sides have had some epic games over the past few seasons. Since October 2013 the sides have met seven times and each game has seen an over 2.5 goal and Yes on Both Teams To Score bet cash. Why do Palace cause them so many problems? Well they have always been a team that is a real threat from set pieces and crossed balls into their opponents’ box. The signing of Christian Benteke only adds to that threat and the only clean sheet Liverpool has kept all season is when Man Utd visited Anfield determined not to concede at all costs. Even with the goal line set at 2.75 I will take some of the over.
Everton v West Ham United
Everton -0.75 and 2.75 goals
Back in March we saw West Ham end one of the longest and strangest run of results I can think of in EPL history. Their 3-2 win in this fixture ended a run of eighteen games in all competitions without a Hammers victory when the sides meet. Yes on Both Teams To Score is on a six game run when they meet and is 15-2 in the last seventeen meetings of the sides. Despite their pretty average start to the season West Ham have scored in all but one of their games and this Everton side has only shut out Sunderland and Stoke this campaign. Surely this game will have goals aplenty!
Southampton v Chelsea
Chelsea -0.25 and 2.5 goals
Yes on Both Teams To Score is on a 8-1 run when the sides have met in all competitions since January 2013. I have spoken greatly about my belief that Chelsea do not look like a side who can take games away from sides as that is what my eyes tell me. However, over 2.5 goals is 8-1 over the course of the season in their EPL matches with the other game at Hull ending in a 2-0 win for the Blues. What your eyes tell you and what the stats tell you are often two very different things. Cover my eyes and back the over 2.5 goals!
Stoke City v Swansea City
Stoke -0.5 and 2.5 goals
Stoke are 3-2-0 on home soil against Swansea in EPL meetings and last season they also managed a 1-0 win in Wales when the sides met. The home side are now four games unbeaten in EPL outings; has Bob Bradley ever been to Stoke on a cold Monday night in October? Stoke or pass.
