They say the best thing about twitter is that everyone can join…the irony there is that it might be the worst thing about it as well (just ask Stephen A Smith about it). Social media is an exceptional tool for giving everyone an equal voice, even those that choose to attack others rather than provide thought provoking discourse. I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I learn as much, if not more, from the people I interact with on twitter than I can ever hope to provide for others myself. After a few too many adult beverages with a couple close friends over the weekend, I decided to craft a short social media IQ test. Of course 85% of you will pass with flying colors…it’s the other 15% I worry about. Have at it ladies and gents
- Can you spell your name correctly in your profile? +1 point
- Can you load an avatar of SOMETHING other than defaulting to the egg? +1 point
- Are you comfortable tweeting using your real name or likeness? +1 point
- If you can’t tweet under your real name given the circumstances, do you act like a civilized contributing member of society? +1 point
- Do you only use an alias to act like an idiot or troll? -1 point
- Do you take trolling seriously enough to use your real name? +1 point
- Do you understand subject/noun agreement? +1 point
- Can you differentiate between your and you’re? +1 point
- Is getting an entire thought out in 140 chars feasible? +1 point
- Are you able to understand the difference between tweeting and a blog post disguised as 8 straight tweets? +1 point
- Do you follow Stephen A Smith? -1 point
- Are you capable of tweeting without using expletives? +1 point
- Can you resist the urge to make racist or sexist commentary? +1 point
- Is drunk tweeting a staple in your repertoire? -1 point
- Have you ever told someone to die on social media? -1 point
- Have you claimed “being hacked” after saying something stupid or offensive? -1 point
- Do you say things on twitter that you’d never have the guts to say to a person’s face? -1 point
- Have you attacked high school age recruits that didn’t choose your program? -1 point
- Have you asked for a celebrity birthday RT? -1 point
- Do you enter into discussions about “your team” expecting to be the voice of reason even with said team’s logo in your avatar? -1 point

Grading System
9-11 Points: You comport yourself like an adult most of the time, social media won’t be the root of your demise
5-8 Points: There’s hope here. You understand the value in twitter and how mature individuals carry themselves in 2 way dialogue.
1-4 Points: You might want to think twice about actually tweeting, Things might be better if your account is more about obtaining news and updates rather than sharing a skewed version of the world
0 or less: May the good lord have mercy on your soul
