Mush McGee Week 8
Mush Mcgee Week 8 Picks (by Keith Ellett)
Everybody thank Todd for finally posting my picks to his blog. If I were you, I would start looking for a new bookie because yours is sure to cut you off if I continue to share my weekly gems.
For those that don’t know me, my name is Mush McGee. I get most of my knowledge from watching endless hours of ESPN and I think Chris Berman is the ubber sharp. Most of my personal numbers are congruent to ESPN’s power rankings because if they do it professionally, why should I craft my own? Using those numbers, I consistently dominate NFL sides and totals. I only post my strongest plays and I give a suggested unit size for each play. I like to play the biggest games of the week, especially the Sunday and Monday Night games since they’re the softest lines of the week making them the easiest to cap and provide the biggest edge.
As I expected, this past Thursday night game was as exciting as getting kicked in the groin. That left me a perfect opportunity to head over to surf the net and do some much needed research. I also listened to Mike and Mike all week, meaning I’m up to date on which teams are great and which teams are better off not showing up this Sunday.
There are a few obvious locks in the morning session for today…
Let’s start with San Diego Chargers -3 at Cleveland Browns. The Browns really are one of the worst teams in the league this year, or every year for that matter. San Diego is coming off a bye and they will be desperate to prove themselves after the collapse a few weeks ago at home against Denver. When Vegas gives you a gift like this, you simply take it and say thank you. 3* San Diego -3
The next game that jumps off the board to me is the Atlanta Falcons +2.5 (total of 43.5). Please tell me how ESPN’s #1 ranked team in the league is getting points against the 13th best? Not only that, but they give me a total in the low 40’s!? Vick has turned the ball over like a thousand times so far this season and this Eagle team must have kidnapped a leprechaun because they’re getting lucky every week. That luck can only go on for so long… ATL 5*, 2 *Over, 5* tease ATL/Over
The last easy game of the morning session is Seattle Seahawks +2.5 at Detroit. The Sports Guy has been touting Russell Wilson all year and I am finally a believer. All you have to do is look at his body of work; wins over Green Bay and New England, 2 of the best teams in the league (both top 8 in my rankings and ESPN’s). Last week, he almost beat SF on the road! If it weren’t for a few dropped balls I really think they would have won that game. Detroit’s been one of the most disappointing teams in the league, and now Megatron is banged up. There’s no reason for Seattle to be getting points here, clearly the better team. Seattle 3*
Onto the late games…
At least the NFL/Vegas will give us some money in the late session. It really doesn’t get any easier than taking NY Giants -2 @ Dallas Cowboys. This line opened at Cowboys -2 and big money has come in on the Giants to move it the other way. Vegas only gives you one of these every other week or so and where they’re off, you just have to hit them in the mouth. Normally a game this easy would receive play of the week status. ESPN #2 vs ESPN #15. You do the math. Giants 5*
Sunday Night Football gives us 2 very good teams, Saints and Broncos. New Orleans really seems to have found their stride after starting off the year in a serious funk. That kind of thing is going to happen when you’re without your head coach. I give Drew Bree’s all the credit in the world for rallying his troops and leading his team to consecutive victories. One thing I cant figure out, is why in the heck the Saints are getting 6 points?! Their offense is hitting stride and Denver’s defense has proven all year that it will give up a ton of points. This game has the makings of a shootout. Both qbs have been lights out last few weeks, and they both seem to perform better under the lights on the biggest stage. Saints 2* Over 4*
Monday Night Football is my time to shine. I generally love loading up on this game to really stick it to my guy to close the week. This week will be no different when I pound the San Francisco 49ers -7 @ Arizona Cardinals. Few different factors working here: First is coaching, Harbaugh is a motivational genius and he will not allow this Niner team to look past a divisional foe. Second is QB play where John Skelton has been awful. The 49ers have one of the best defenses in the league and I just don’t see how Arizona is going to score in this game. This line would be higher if the Cardinals didn’t get a couple lucky early season victories (see @ New England Week 2, those jags knocked me out of my survivor pool). For now we will only be playing SF 4*, and that may change after I see how Sunday plays out. You will be notified if the unit size changes.
Good luck this weekend. Do yourself a favor and dont bet the board, I would hate to build your bankroll and have you puke it away on your own leans. It’s all about getting that green…
